We're just back from Spring Break. Many of you traveled. Many stayed in town. In any case, we've just finished a unit where you studied how America grew from seas to shining sea from 1783 to 1853. What is America like today? How would you describe its regions, its towns, its people from your experiences over Spring Break?
Mrs. Frankmann and I had the chance to explore New Orleans over our break, and found it to be quite wonderfully different from home in many good ways. Later, I'll post a list of things starting with "New Orleans is" that will be specific to that unique city. However, to model the idea for this discussion board, here is a description of "The South" that I saw being sold printed on Kitchen Towels in a gourmet shop on Jackson Square:
The South
Where tea is sweet
and accents are sweeter
Summer starts in April
Front porches are wide
and words are long.
Macaroni and Cheese is a vegetable
Pecan pie is a staple
Y'all is the only proper pronoun
Chicken is fried and
Biscuits come with gravy.
Everything is "Darlin"
and someone's heart is
always getting blessed.
So how would you describe..."America is... Ohio is... Aurora is... Wherever you traveled is..."?
This discussion will run through Sunday, April 12th
